The use of learning areas
Thursday, November 19, 2015 5:00:00 PM GMT - 6:00:00 PM GMT
Teaching English is fast cascading into pre-primary education, with several countries announcing compulsory English for children from 5 years old beginning in September 2015. In many cases this involves a visiting English teacher, who may not have training to teach such small children. This webinar shares the results of an ELTRA project, which investigated the effectiveness of incorporating an English learning area into the children’s play choices. This approach naturally integrates English into their daily activities and learning, extending it beyond the short weekly English lessons, which typify instructed FL learning contexts. The research confirmed the effectiveness of this approach together with the importance of the collaborating with the pre-primary educator.
